Moving to a Different Outlook Email Folder and Reading Email

You have created email folders and have copied or moved emails to those folders. Now, how do you get to those folders to read emails? Control y will open a "Go to Folder" dialogue box. In this box you need to down or up arrow to the "Inbox" item, right arrow, down arrow to the folder you want to open, and then hit the Enter key. You will be immediately placed in the folder you selected, at the top of the list of emails in that folder. You can now down or up arrow to the email you want to open and read, and then hit escape to close that email. To get back to the "Inbox" folder, press and hold down the Control key and hit the letter y. Up arrow to the "Inbox" item and hit the Enter key. You are now back in the "Inbox" at the top of the list of emails. Try the following activity. After you are quick and accurate move to the "BACK" link at the bottom of this page to move to the "Outlook Lessons" web page.

1. Open Outlook.

2. Press and hold down the Control key and hit the letter y.

3. Down or up arrow to the "Inbox" item.

4. Right arrow.

5. Down arrow to the folder you want.

6. Hit the Enter key.

7. Down arrow through the list of emails.

8. Hit Enter to open and read an email.

9. Hit the Escape key.

10. Press and hold down the Control key and hit the letter y.

11. Up arrow to the "Inbox" item.

12. Hit Enter and you are back in the "Inbox" at the top of the list of emails.

13. Press and hold down the Control key and hit the letter y.

14. Down or up arrow to the "Sent Items" item.

15. Hit the Enter key.

16. Down arrow through the list of emails that you have sent.

17. Press and hold down the Control key and hit the letter y.

18. Down arrow to the "Deleted Items" item.

19. Hit the Enter key.

20. Down arrow through the deleted emails.

21. Press Control Shift v.

22. Up arrow to the "Inbox" item.

23. Hit the Enter key and your deleted email will be placed back in the "Inbox."

24. To be sure you are in the "Inbox," press Control y, arrow to the "Inbox" item and hit Enter.

25. Practice the above again-and-again until you are quick and accurate.

NOTE: If you delete and email from the "Deleted Items" folder, it is gone forever!
